Scout Hall
I am pleased to announce that the Scout Hall has now been handed back to the group.
Over the last few days the equipment and resources have been moved back in.
After the Easter holidays, week commencing the 4th April, all the sections will return to there normal meeting times & days.
On Saturday 2nd April the building will be open to the public from 10am to 2pm for you to come along and have a look around prior to re-opening. Details of the official opening ceremony will follow shortly.
The building is a fantastic resource for both the scouts and the community and we would like to thank you all for your patience and support to the group and in particular while the build has been taking place.
Time for the Adventure to continue...

Awards
I'm delighted to announce that Keith & Monica James have been awarded The Silver Wolf Award in recognition of services to Scouting of the most exceptional nature.
Keith & Monica have helped our group with almost every cub & scout camp for the last 10 years and despite their age they give there all at every camp and in every thing they do! Keith has given 50 years and Monica 40 years to scouting.
I hope you will all join me in congratulating them on this well deserved award

THANK YOU
On Saturday 26th September 2015 the group held a street collection in Horbury town centre. The collection was carried out by the young people with the support of adult leaders.
The 8th Wakefield Scout Group would like to thank the local community, friends and family who supported the street collection by donating a few pennies.
The whole event raised a grand total of £508.55
We will be putting the money raised in to our Building fund for our new Hut.

Horbury Show
THANK YOU goes out to all the Parents, friends and neighbours who supported at the Horbury Show last Sunday.
The 8th Wakefield would would also like to thank all those who donated things towards the event.
The whole event raised a grand total of £285.00.
We will be putting the money raised in to our Building fund for our new Hut.

Announcement
Thank you to WREN, the 8th Wakefield Horbury Bridge Scout Group & Meeting Hall have been awarded a grant of £50,000 towards the creation of the new building.
This is one of the final pieces of the jigsaw the group have been waiting for. Within the coming weeks we will know when the new build can start, then we can start moving out of the current building and finding alternative meeting places for the duration of the build.
There is much work to do and any help during this time is appreciated.
The new building will be used by the scout group and will also be available to community groups, organisations and individuals.

Donation
In Memory of the late Mr John Kenneth Holden (Ex 8th wakefield Scout) the Group has received £150.00 in donations in lieu of flowers. The Group will be putting the Monies received towards their building fund.
On behalf of the whole Group Adrian Cooper (Group Scout Leader) would like to thank the family of Mr Holden.

A big thank you to all the Customers and Staff at Aldersons Print of Horbury who raised £44.65 for the Scout Hut from their Collection Box.

Fantastic News - 14th Decemeber 2014
Thanks to The Veolia Environmental Trust, the 8th Wakefield Horbury Bridge Scout Group have been awarded a grant of £75,000 towards the creation of the new building. The group also have a grant application in to WREN for £50,000 but we await their decision on our application.
It’s going to be a busy few months as there is much work to do and we will need to keep on fundraising but (fingers crossed) we hope to start building next Summer. The building will also be available to community groups and organisations.

October 2014 Fundraiser.
Thank you to all of you that came to the campfire on the 25th October. We hope you all enjoyed it....The money paid for the event raised a total of £137.88 to go into the 'hut fund'. So thank you for that.
An evening of family fun, hot dogs and hot chocolate accompanied with a few campfire songs was enjoyed by all that attended.

Donation
Following the thanks giving service and funeral of Ted Fawcett (Ex Group Scout Leader) in June this year. A collection was made at the time in aid of 8th Wakefield Scout Group.
We have now received this collection in the form of a generous donation from his wife Joan Fawcett of £520.00, which will be put towards the building fund for our new scout hut.
On behalf of the group and all the children at the group I would like to thank all those who donated money in the memory of Ted.

Grant Awarded
The 8th Wakefield Scout group has been given a grant from the Neighbourhood Improvement Ward Fund for the purchase of a new mess tent (24ft 10" x 14ft 6 ") This new tent will allow all the sections when away on camp a better enviorment for eating and other activities in the event of bad weather.
Many thanks to WMDC for awarding the group this grant (£999.00) for this much need equipment.

Bags2School
Thanks to the Beavers, parents, friends and family for collecting old clothing for the Bags2school event we did in March. We managed to collect 240Kg of clothes which has netted the Group £130.00 towards the New Scout Hut Fund.

Co-operative Partnership Scheme
During the month April the Cooperative Food Store and Bank in Horbury is ran its “Cooperative Partnership Scheme”.  Members making a purchase or transacting in the bank werer given a token to vote for one of three projects. Co-op members were able to vote for there prefered local charity.
Fortunately our group and the New Building Fund was selected as one of the three schemes shortlisted: and we recently found out that we had won a share of £1000.
The presentation was carried out on Tuesday 7th May 2013 by Roger Tyrell who is vice chair of the Leeds & Wakefield area committee from where the funds come from. Horbury scouts received £414.24 Which we will be putting the money raised in our Building fund for our new Scout Hut.

Planning Permission (Feb 2012)
Wakefield Council planning have now granted the group planning permission for the build of our new scout hut. The process has taken over 12 months to go through with various addional surveys and reports being carried out. Now that permission has been granted all we need is the funding to carry it forward. We have various fundraising events planned for this year, we are also looking at different grants which we are hoping to apply for. We are also looking for any donations towards the the funding of the new building, If any one would like to help make the plans become a reality we would love to hear from you. __________________________________________________________________

New Beaver Colony Opens
For over 10 years the group has had large numbers of younsters on our waiting list. On Tuesday 9th Novemberr we opened our new Beaver Colony (Hebble Colony). The Group has been Fortunate enough to have two parents who have volunteered to become leaders, which has enabled us to open this second colony and release some the high numbers held on our waiting list.
We hope the colony will now grow from strength to strength and wish the leaders all the best over these next few weeks and months.

Beavers Sponsored Dribble
Recentley the Beavers and their parents held a sponsore dribble. Parents were pitched against their  sibblings, driibbling a football around a set of cones. With the help of the Beavers and the Parents they have managed to raise a fantastic total of £374.50 towards the building fund for our new Scout Hut.
A big thankyou to all the Beavers parents and Leaders who helped make this fantastic total. __________________________________________________________________

Coffee Morning (24th July)
THANK YOU goes out to all the Parents, friends and neighbours who supported us during our recent coffee morning. A special THANK YOU to Alison Richardson for organsing it all and Alison's parents, for hosting the coffee morning at their home.
The 8th Wakefield would would also like to thank all those who donated cakes etc including local buisness's Boulby's, Charlesworths and Horbury Co-op.
The whole event raised a grand total of £87.00.
We will be putting the money raised in to our Building fuilding fund for our new Hut.

Another THANK YOU goes out to all the Parents, friends and neighbours who supported us during the Horbury Street Fayre. A special THANK YOU to the parents, Cubs, Scouts and Leaders who helped man our activities, without them it wouldn't have been possible.
Although we didn't raise as much as we expected the total fund raised was a little over £130.00.
We will be putting the money raised in to our Building fund for the new Scout Hut.

Spring Fayre
A huge THANK YOU goes out to all the Parents, friends and neighbours who supported us during the joint Group Spring Fair on Saturaday 8th May and also to all those who placed orders for plants prior to the event. The total fund raised has been split btween the three Scout Groups and our group has receieved £150.00.

Our New Cub Pack Opens

Following many years of high waiting list numbers in cubs Friday 30th April saw the opening of our new Cub pack. We have been fortunate that Adults have volunteered to give up there time to enable to release some the high numbers held on our waiting list.
We hope the pack will now grow from strength to strength and wish the leaders all the best over these next few weeks and months.
